It’s the final day of 2016, and what a year it’s been, to say the least. Between a tumultuous presidential election and the deaths of many beloved public figures, from authors to actors to singers and more, people are collectively more than ready to bid this year adieu and welcome 2017 with open arms.
As we ring in the New Year, it’s important to focus on the good, to be grateful and optimistic, to strive to be better and to always continue to learn and grow. In that vein, it’s time to make some New Year’s resolutions and work hard to actually follow through on them.
Travel more. I’ve been saying for years how I’d like to move to LA someday, but I still have yet to visit California. I’d like to take a trip out there to explore, get a feel for it, do some sight-seeing. I’d like to travel more in general. It doesn’t necessarily have to be traveling abroad, although that would be awesome, too. It could just be taking small weekend trips. A spa getaway. Dining at a restaurant I’ve never been to before. Visiting a friend in another state. They say spending money on experiences as opposed to possessions brings more happiness, so what better way to create memories to fondly look back on than to do some more traveling?
Take a risk. As someone who always plays it safe, I know that taking a risk will only do me good. Sometimes you’ve got to take risks in life to really grow. I need that push outside my comfort zone if I’m ever going to get where I want to be in life. Otherwise, I’ll always be stuck in the same place, mentally and physically. Therefore, I’m going to push myself to take some sort of risk, whether it’s a personal or professional one. Maybe when I do, it’ll lead to taking more risks and ultimately discovering new opportunities, but I’ll never find them until I take that first step.
I’d like to personally wish you a wonderful, fantastic, happy, healthy, joyous, fun, exciting, amazing New Year! Here’s to making 2017 a year filled with adventures!
